BEA's *New* Remote Learning Schedule: Begins Monday, April 6

Dear Bronx Envision Academy Students, Parents, Guardians, and Families,

Thank you for your partnership as we work together during the COVID-19 health crisis. This has been a challenging transition, but we could not be more proud of how the BEA community has risen to the occasion.  We have heard your feedback and concerns, and we have learned much about how to serve our students, teachers and parents through remote learning.

We believe we can best support our students by modifying the schedule, effective Monday, April 6. In our new schedule, students will spend less time in zoom classes and have more time for independent work and individualized support. We understand that some of our students have been overwhelmed. Our teachers are working to thoughtfully coordinate assignments so that the emphasis is on quality and mastery rather than quantity, and we are excited to offer extra support with our modified schedule.

What is the same:
The core school day will remain from 8:20AM- 2:40PM.
The regular class schedule sequence remains the same (with modified start and end times).

What is Changing:

  • Whole-class Zoom Instruction will take place from 9AM-1PM. First period begins at 9AM.
  • Classroom (Zoom) sessions are now 30 minutes. Students should log into Zoom on time to make the most of this limited time together.
  • Students will have 40 minutes of uninterrupted independent work time in the morning and 2 hours of independent work time in the afternoon, with teacher support available in the afternoon.
  • Lunch club zoom sessions will be offered daily (30 minutes each).
  • Each teacher will offer weekly office hours for additional support and feedback, scheduled so that students can receive support in all subjects.
  • We added an additional office hours session for math, based on feedback from students and teachers.
  • After School tutoring and clubs will begin again! They take place from 3:15- 4:15.

Expectations for Students:
Class times will be shorter, but students are responsible for the same work and daily class attendance. The new schedule gives students more opportunities for extra help and to complete assignments with uninterrupted work time. We expect that students will take advantage of the additional time, manage their time productively and utilize the provided supports throughout the entirety of the school day.

Although teachers may invite specific students to attend office hours, we strongly encourage all students to take part in office hours as necessary to further their learning.

Suggestions for Parents/Guardians:
We recommend that you:

  • Assist your children by providing a distraction-free, productive work space Mon-Fri 8:20 AM - 2:40 PM.
  • Familiarize yourself with the new schedule.
  • Regularly check PupilPath to see your child’s academic progress and use this information to help your child create a weekly schedule of the supports he/she will take advantage of from 1:00PM - 3:10PM.
  • Regularly check your text messages for Kinvolved notifications about your child’s attendance and progress and for other important communication.
  • Ask your child to share work and to show you how Classroom and Zoom function.

Remote Learning Schedule (Effective April 6)

Estimados estudiantes, padres, tutores y familias de la Academia Bronx Envision,

Gracias por su colaboración mientras trabajamos juntos durante la crisis de salud de COVID-19. Esta ha sido una transición desafiante, pero no podríamos estar más orgullosos de cómo la comunidad BEA ha estado a la altura de las circunstancias. Hemos escuchado sus comentarios y preocupaciones y hemos aprendido mucho sobre cómo servir a nuestros estudiantes, maestros y padres a través del aprendizaje remoto.

Creemos que podemos apoyar mejor a nuestros estudiantes modificando el horario, a partir del lunes 6 de abril. En nuestro nuevo horario, los estudiantes pasarán menos tiempo en clases de zoom y tendrán más tiempo para trabajo independiente y apoyo individualizado. Entendemos que algunos de nuestros estudiantes se han sentido abrumados. Nuestros maestros están trabajando para coordinar cuidadosamente las tareas para que el énfasis esté en la calidad y el dominio en lugar de la cantidad, y estamos entusiasmados de ofrecer apoyo adicional con nuestro horario modificado. 

Qué es lo mismo:
El horario escolar permanecerá de 8:20 a.m. a 2:40 p.m.
La secuencia del horario de clases regular sigue siendo la misma (con horarios de inicio y finalización modificados).

¿Qué está cambiando?

  • La instrucción de zoom de todas las clases tendrá lugar de 9 a.m. a 1 p.m. El primer período comienza a las 9 a.m.
  • Las sesiones de aula (Zoom) son ahora de 30 minutos. Los estudiantes deben iniciar sesión en Zoom a tiempo para aprovechar al máximo este tiempo limitado juntos.
  • Los estudiantes tendrán 40 minutos de tiempo de trabajo independiente ininterrumpido en la mañana y 2 horas de tiempo de trabajo independiente en la tarde, con el apoyo del maestro disponible en la tarde.
  • Se ofrecerán diariamente sesiones de zoom del club de almuerzo (30 minutos cada una).
  • Cada maestro ofrecerá horas de oficina semanales para recibir apoyo y comentarios adicionales, programados para que los estudiantes puedan recibir apoyo en todas las materias.
  • Agregamos sesiones adicionales de horario de oficina para matemáticas, basadas en los comentarios de estudiantes y maestros.
  • ¡La tutoría y los clubes después de la escuela comenzarán de nuevo! Se llevarán a cabo de 3:15 a 4:15.

Expectativas para los estudiantes:
Los tiempos de clase serán más cortos, pero los estudiantes son responsables del mismo trabajo y asistencia diaria a clase. El nuevo horario ofrece a los estudiantes más oportunidades de ayuda adicional y completar tareas con tiempo de trabajo ininterrumpido. Esperamos que los estudiantes aprovechen el tiempo adicional, administren su tiempo productivamente y utilicen los apoyos proporcionados durante todo el día escolar.

Aunque los maestros pueden invitar a estudiantes específicos para que asistan a las horas de oficina, recomendamos encarecidamente a todos los estudiantes que participen en las horas de oficina según sea necesario para continuar su aprendizaje.

Recomendamos que usted:

  • Ayude a sus hijos brindándoles un espacio de trabajo productivo y sin distracciones de lunes a viernes de 8:20 a.m. a 2:40 p.m.
  • Familiaricese con el nuevo horario.
  • Revise regularmente PupilPath para ver el progreso académico de su hijo y use esta información para ayudarlo a crear un horario semanal de apoyo que aprovechará de 1:00 p.m. a 3:10 p.m.
  • Revise regularmente sus mensajes de texto para recibir notificaciones de Kinvolved sobre la asistencia y el progreso de su hijo y para otras comunicaciones importantes.
  • Pídale a su hijo que comparta el trabajo y que le muestre cómo funcionan el Aula y el Zoom.
